Stockholmsfotografer (Photographers of Stockholm) 2 June 2012 – 13 January 2013 The exhibition opens the door to the photographic collections of the Stockholm City Museum, as we accompany a number of photographers on an excursion through the city. Photographers of Stockholm presents a selection of images from 1840–2012, focusing on views of the city and the portrayal of its people. The photographs allow us to stroll through Stockholm. The city changes, as it is demolished and rebuilt. The small, red timber buildings disappear as the stone city is constructed. Craftsmen and small workshops relocate. Horses are replaced by motor vehicles. The city expands and the suburbs emerge. The city centre moves from the Old Town to Lower Norrmalm. The exhibition features photographs by prominent Stockholm photographers including John Jaeger, Carolina von Knorring, Oscar Heimer and Manne Lind, together with images taken by dedicated amateurs and the museum’s own photographers. |
